GOP has no room to talk on Edwards scandal

Unlike many recent Republican controversies, the recent revelation about former Sen. John Edwards is that he had an affair with a woman.

Yuk, yuk, yuk.

But seriously, people like this vaginal cleansing device have no room to talk – major members of the GOP have done the very same thing. The two top: former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and presumptive GOP presidential nominee John McCain.

Newt Gingrich

Newt Gingrich has been married three times. He married Jackie Battley, his former high school geometry teacher, when he was 19 years old (she was seven years his senior at 26 years old). After an alleged affair in 1977 with Ann Manning, then the wife of a West Georgia professor, he sought a divorce from Battley. That was finalized in 1981. Gingrich refused to pay both alimony and child support. The local First Baptist church took up collections for support of Jackie and their children. In 1981, Gingrich wed Marianne Ginther, to whom he remained married until 2000, the same year Gingrich had an affair with a then 33-year-old Congressional staffer, Callista Bisek.

Not only that, but in “Confessions of a Political Hitman,” former Republican oppo guy Stephen Marks discusses how Gingrich staffers on his ’76 campaign said he would have won if he wasn’t fucking his mistress at the office all the time.

John McCain

John McCain had a well-documented affair on his first wife, with his current wife. He has admitted in the books he has written about his life that he ran around with several different women while still married to his first wife. And don’t forget that he left her for a younger, richer woman – multi-millionaire Cindy Hensley who is now Cindy McCain – after she had been severely hurt in a car accident.

So, check yo self, sucka.

Newt, Foley, L. Craig, Livingston, Vitter, Spitzer, McGrevey, Packwood, Clinton – there is a long list of public people with personal failings. I am not put off by the act or the lying (What do they have to lose at that point?), and as a general rule, I don’t think adultery should be a disqualifier for office. What is repellent to me is the hypocrisy, the cravenness that they hold on to power after being caught, and the humiliation their spouses have to endure when used as props when they make public admissions. They are self-absorbed malignant narcissists. Bob Packwood ran for reelection. Bob Livingston did it right; he got caught and resigned in hours. I did notice McCain gave a firm no comment to an Edwards affair.

He probably gave that firm no comment because he doesn’t want anyone to ask him about the firm rogering he gave lobbyist Vicky Iselman recently. Yeah- he doesn’t like lobbyists. He doesn’t like lobbyists that won’t deep throat him.

    PEACE
