Sen. Knotts’ hootenanny a grand old time

If you didn’t get out to Sen. Jake Knotts’ party at the Blue Marlin last evening, boy did you miss a good time. It had it all – barbecue, mac & cheese, gigantic fans…. Oh, yeah – free booze. Lots of it. Domestic beers, wine, mixed drinks. Really, though, when you’re sweating through your shirt because of the heat, you need a few drinks to power through it.

What was even better was the crowd, an almost rogues’ gallery politicians, operatives and hangers-on. It was amazing: lobbyist/former David Beasley campaign manager Tony Denny (in some very unfashionable sneakers), attorney/activist Tom Turnipseed, Democratic consultant Bud Ferillo, Rep. Joan Brady, the Quinn firm trinity (Rick Quinn, Adam Piper, Fogle), Bill Collins (challenging Mike Rose in SD-38), George Bailey (leaving the Building & Loan to challenge Rep. Patsy Knight) and many, many others.

Of course, Rod Shealy and his sons were in attendance, as well. Rod was looking good, and he seems to be on top of growing his “victory beard.”
