Congressional Bowl another unneeded DC concoction

Nobody likes college football more than Vierdsen, but adding yet another bowl game, and putting it at Nationals Park in DC, isn’t the best idea in the world.

The game is setting up to pit Navy against the No. 9 team in the ACC. Now, it’s just seems like a bad idea to guarantee a team a bowl bid if it reaches the six-game threshold. Moreover, it’s almost condescending, like, “We know no other bowl will take you losers with six wins, but you’re local, independent, and we can make some money together.”

The other mistake is inviting the No. 9 team in the ACC. While, according to the Washington Business Journal, Maryland was ninth last year, that doesn’t really count. There were only eight bowl-eligible teams in the conference, of which the Terps were the last. North Carolina and N.C. State, also 3-5 in conference play, were not eligible.

That means you’re probably going to have an at-large bid to hand out to someone – probably a Big East or MAC squad. Hell, Western Kentucky went 7-5 last year, you could bring those guys in and have a real barn-burner than only gambling degenerates will watch.
