It’s a sad day, because reports out of Ann Arbor (who may or may not be a whore) say that Michigan player Marques Slocum won’t be returning to the Wolverines this year because of academic issues. Slocum is the goddamn brilliant mind that gave college football fans and, indeed, the nation, the phrase “fuck lion.”
Yes, lo in August of 2007, it was discovered that Slocum posted a Q&A on his Facebook page. To the question, “Do you own any pets, and if so what do you have,” Slocum responded, “i got a fuck lion now come fuck wit me.”
Subsequently, CFB 2007 was the Year of the Fuck Lion (or, possibly, massive goddamn upsets…nah, fuck lion it is). You couldn’t go on any of your favorite Web sites without seeing some reference to the beast.
Then came the stories of Slocum the man. Behold, UMich student Shane posting in April on MGoBlog:
I, too, had a class with Marques Slocum my senior year of undergrad. It was actually one of professor Hagen’s classes, one day, we split into groups to do survey work. When one of the group members called on Mr. Slocum to answer a question, he said, “Aw, shit, I don’t know – I’m not used to standing up in class. I’m used to standing up to get awards and shit.” And then he left the room.
