To many, the thought that a Democrat might win South Carolina in a presidential election is only found in the last season of “The West Wing,” not in any legitimate analysis. Or so you thought.
Sen. Barack Obama’s doing a little twisting of the electoral math, and according to Dan Hoover of The Greenville News, plans may be in the works to get Sen. John McCain’s cash-strapped operation to have to compete for S.C.’s eight electoral votes.
Could Obama pull a Santos? According to some weird bullshit poll averaging that Karl Rove did a couple weeks ago, McCain was only up four. That’s striking distance, bud.
The old rule of statewide Democratic wins is thus: win over 90 percent of the black vote, and that vote total has to be near or surpass record levels – plus – win close to 30 percent of the white vote.
Regardless of whether he can pull it off or not, spending a small part of his considerable war chest to get McCain to cover his back yard is a fine idea, especially with the Arizona Republican hamstrung by spending limits.
